12 Jun What happens at a Reiki Session?
Reiki healing helps millions of people around the world to maintain their health, effectively treat problems of various origins, and by practicing the method, create a state of inner peace and harmony. Let’s see what it is exactly and how it can help you.
Origins
Reiki’s spiritual origins date back to the early 20th century to the inspirational teachings of Mikao Usui – a Japanese Buddhist monk. Mikao Usui developed his method after experiencing a state of enlightenment in 1922, during his 21-day retreat. Usui subscribed to the idea that every being has universal life force energy. When this vital energy, known as “qi” is flowing freely, the body and mind balance is in its optimal state. The goal of Reiki energy healing is to center and unblock stagnating energy that can negatively impact one’s emotional and physical well-being.

The word “Reiki” means “mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign.” It comes from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy).
How is Reiki different from other treatments?
While traditional medicine focuses mainly on relieving (suppressing) symptoms, reiki treatment supports the body’s ability to heal itself by dissolving toxins and energy blocks, ultimately dissolving the roots. It revitalizes, energizes and strengthens your immune system. Even more! It harmonizes, balances, eliminates distracting thoughts, calms undulating emotions, and helps you to return to the essence of yourself.
What happens at a Reiki session?
The session usually starts with a short conversation in which you tell why you want the Reiki treatment and what you can expect during the treatment. The therapy is done fully dressed – just loosen the tight belt – so you can relax comfortably.
The healing can be done while lying on a massage bed or even sitting on a chair. The main consideration is your comfort. Reiki may be done with a light gentle pressure static touch or the practitioner’s hands may be a few inches above your body at the hand positions with no actual touch. During the treatment: relax only comfortably with your eyes closed while receiving the energy treatment that will deliver you in a deep relaxation.
In Reiki treatment, subtle perception and intuition play an important role, during which the therapist is able to sense and purposefully resolve energy blocks and accumulated toxins. First the head and then the front of the body are later energized, covering the whole body. If there is a particular injury, such as a burn or a broken bone, the hands may be held just above the wound. Some Reiki practitioners use crystals and chakra healing wands too. The therapy ends with a refreshing massage technique, which further enhances the effectiveness of the treatment and helps to become alert after the treatment.
The full treatment lasts for 60-90 minutes, after which it is worth consuming more clean water throughout the day, supporting the removal of toxins from the body.
Many people sense the energy in different ways. Most experience heat and a very pleasant state of relaxation during treatment. After the session: an internal balance is common, you feel fresh and recharged.
You can measure the efficiency of the treatment with Egely Wheel
Sometimes the experience of Reiki is dramatic, while for other people, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they feel somehow better afterward. That is why the Egely Wheel Vitality Meter is useful: it provides immediate and accurate feedback on your energy level. You can measure the difference by following these steps:
- Make a measurement directly before the Reiki Healing.
- Measure the changes in your energy level during the Reiki Healing.
- Make a measurement directly after the Reiki Healing and compare your results.
- Monitor the progress during the therapy period.
