Healing with Energy and Information III.

The concept of energy healing encompasses a wide range of alternative medicine, naturopathy, and a number of therapeutic techniques. In all cases, energy therapy is based on the belief and trust of the therapist and the patient that there is subtle bio-energy in and around the body.

This cannot be measured with the instruments that exist today (with the possible exception of the single Egely wheel) and with procedures that are certified as scientific. Recent research confirms that energy healing can help with many health problems for which modern Western medicine is either ineffective or unable to achieve significant improvement.

Today, more and more doctors are willing to incorporate these therapies into their practice. In the third part of our series, we will continue with a description of the different healing methods.

Meridian therapies

Practitioners of these therapies seek to eliminate emotional and physical problems by treating points on acupuncture energy lines, also known as meridians. Nervousness, pain, fears, post-traumatic and stress-related disorders, allergies are the main areas of focus of the so-called Thought Field Therapy (Callahan, 1985), the Emotional Freedom Technique (Craig/Fowlie) or the Fleming Acupressure Technique.

Chakra therapy goes back thousands of years. As you may know, the chakras (wheels in Sanskrit) are the main energy centres of the body, located in the central line of the body. There are seven major chakras and a number of minor or sub-chakras. Energy healers use their hands or an instrument (such as a pendulum, Körbler’s bio-indicator, Polish stick, etc.) to examine the state of the chakras and, if necessary, remove the surplus energy and fill the energy deficit. The so-called psychics, who can see several layers of the aura in different colours, perceive different coloured discs or spheres at the site of the chakras.

If the energetic state of the chakras can be balanced during the healing process, and the energy flow between them – which is constant in a healthy person – can be restored, then the energetic sphere can also improve the physical state of the patient by reflecting it back to the body. The technique of chakra healing can be used for both self and partner treatment (Clinton), as well as the increasingly popular healing method of Prananadi in Hungary.

All meridian-based therapies are highly effective in relieving nervousness, tension and stress, helping to relieve severe emotional trauma, pain and allergy symptoms.

Flower essences

Just like homeopathic remedies, essences derived from various flowers and plants are extremely effective in the treatment of emotional problems and psychological disorders. (In Hungary, Bach flower therapy has been the most popular method, and more recently the Stepanovs method is becoming increasingly popular.)

Essence therapy uses liquid solutions (essences). It is believed that the essence captures the healing energy of flowers, plants, trees, crystals, or other natural sources.

Interestingly, in traditional cultures, shamans claimed that the plants spoke to them, “whispering” how they could help others or the specific patient. In a similar way, healers who are sensitive enough to develop their own flower essences intuitively, which means that they can sense what beneficial effects a particular plant or flower has and what problems it is appropriate to use it for. A further development of this method is when the flower essences are not just smelled or a few drops are placed under the tongue and swallowed, but are dripped onto different parts of the body. This method, which is named after Dietmar Kramer, is based on the fact that different zones of our skin correspond to different internal organs and can be particularly useful in the case of a specific disease or dysfunction.

Healing with flower essences can definitely be classified as energetic or information healing, since the essence contains the energy of the flower, its informative vibrations, which are received by the water and transmitted to the patient. The vibrations of a particular flower are able to restore the imbalance in the patient’s energetic and informational field.

Imagination

The brain works not with words, but with images: every action we plan is first formulated in the language of images. (In Hungary, the Silva method of mind control, which combines elements of this method and meditation, is the most widely used, and is suitable for both self-medication and the treatment of others.)

Healers visualise projecting their healing energy onto a part of the patient’s body, visualising releasing energy blocks, removing excess energy from certain parts of the body. They mostly report that if they transfer their own bio-energy during the visualisation, they soon feel tired and then energetically exhausted. To prevent this, and to achieve maximum efficiency, they prefer to imagine themselves as merely a channel for the universal, cosmic or divine energy that is available to all in unlimited quantities. It is typical that when they use the latter method, they have even more energy at the end of the treatment than before and do not feel tired at all.

Imagination can also be used for self-healing (Achterberg, 1985). The patient visualises absorbing and directing the healing energy to the areas of the body where there is a problem. If, for example, he feels pain, he can imagine the part of the body in red, and then, also using imagery, he can go so far as to actually wash away the red colour with the healing energy he has absorbed. During the visualisation process, the colour gradually fades and eventually turns white, as the pain fades. The recommended technique for people with allergies is to imagine a kind of energetic shield around their body, which reduces allergic reactions.

The immune system can also be strengthened by imagination (Pert, Dreher and Ruff, 1998, and Simonton and Sherman, 1998). Cancer patients are encouraged to imagine their white blood cells as sharks with large white teeth and then visualise them actually eating away the cancer cells.

Research on this topic focuses mainly on the functioning of the immune system (Simonton and Smith). A related report suggests that immune cells can communicate directly with brain cells using dozens of neuropeptides (Pert and Dienstfrey, 1988). Based on an analysis of several studies, Simonton and Sherman conclude that the imagination technique is most effective when combined with meditation and relaxation. It has the potential to benefit cancer patients, reduce mortality and prolong survival.

Meditation

There are many forms of meditation, but what they all have in common is that they help the brain to concentrate. It can be helped by repeating a word or phrase (mantra, mantra chanting), prayer, looking at an object for a long time and then remembering it with closed eyes (such as candle-flame meditation), breathing properly, certain movements (such as dance, rituals). Common to the various breathing techniques is that to achieve a meditative state, it is essential to slow down the breathing, reduce the duration of the inhalation and the amount of air inhaled, and increase the duration of the exhalation. It is also essential to pause breathing after exhalation.

Start measuring today

The Egely Wheel is trusted by thousands of people who practice yoga, telekinesis, meditation and healing. This device is the best solution for measuring your energy flow and efficiency of healing, and you get instant feedback.

If we concentrate our mental energy on one thing, our mind, our spirit, becomes stronger, more empowered. Meditation in energy healing helps to achieve the right concentration, to get in touch with our own bioenergy effectively, and puts the healer in a state that facilitates the bioenergetic connection with the patient. It also helps the healer (or self-healer) to connect more easily with divine or cosmic energy (LeShan, 1974).

Various studies have found that meditation can reduce pain, stress, high blood pressure, muscle tension, even high cholesterol and other problems. Research into meditation is being conducted by Maharishi International University, among others. It is worth mentioning that Michael Murphy and Steven Donovan published a comprehensive paper on this subject in 1997, analysing 600 studies. Another advantage of meditation is that it does not cost a penny and can be practised by anyone at any time. It is certain that you will need a doctor and hospital treatment less often (Orme-Johnson, 1976).

During meditation, hidden, blocked emotions are often released, and mental spasms are eased. If this happens too suddenly, and the meditator is not adequately prepared, he or she can become emotionally unstable. Of course, this can be avoided if the process is guided by someone experienced in meditation techniques.

Intuition

During energy treatments, when the healer comes into contact with the patient, there is also a flow of information that makes healing easier. The therapist not only scans the patient’s aura, but is often guided by intuition to determine where and how to help. Many healers report that their intuition guides them in where to place their hands, where to direct their energy and how long the treatment should last (Benor, 1992).

Listen when your intuition nags you about a health issue. Some healers do the same on their patients.

The other role of intuition is to help us to sense the psychological background behind the patient’s symptoms. Many alternative healers also use their intuition to sense if a patient has experienced some kind of psychological or emotional trauma that has contributed to the development of their symptoms and illnesses. A particular example of this might be the 40-year-old female patient whose headaches are mainly due to the aggressive behaviour and brutality of the man she lives with. In this case, the healer came to this conclusion intuitively, and his patient confirmed its validity. Once the relationship was repaired, the headache disappeared (Benor).

Other methods

Other therapeutic methods of energy healing are only mentioned here. These include anthroposophy, Ayurveda, naturopathic medicine, eye movement therapy (EMDR) and traditional Chinese medicine. In a sense, homeopathy is also an energy therapy, although the energy is mainly transmitted in the form of vibrations and information. However, it also works by restoring the harmony that has been disrupted.
