In Hungary, there is an increasing interest in pseudosciences. The official representatives of science almost unanimously consider those colleagues who engage in these phenomena, which they believe do not exist, as heretics. It is not the job of a journalist to decide which side is right, but it is their duty to introduce the opinions of both sides to the readers. This time, we talked to Dr. George Egely, a mechanical engineer, about how and why he switched to the “other side“. The discussion also includes the globally successful life energy meter device, which he sees as proof of the measurability of human body bioenergies. Egely believes that the utilization of so-called zero-point energy, which can increase the standard of living of Hungarian citizens by three to four times, is on the horizon.

Is it possible to be successful in Hungary if someone conducts experiments considered heretical by the official representatives of science?

Unfortunately, in practice, I find myself alone, because in theory, everyone says that the new should be studied, but when someone actually takes this seriously and tries to do it, they “come to know the God of the Hungarians”. Old reflexes kick in, ‘let’s not deal with this’, ‘this is a murky area’, ‘it’s not worthy of research’. It also happens that initiatives are shut down by an authoritative word. The reflex to ban goes back to ancient times. When someone discovers something new, the so-called great or ‘esteemed’ elders of the specific field immediately protest, because it then becomes apparent that they are doing nothing. This is very hard to swallow, and in an authoritarian scientific society, it is much easier to ban something than to say, yes, this young colleague has discovered something new, and was smarter than us.

Who is Dr. George Egely?

Dr. George Egely is a thermal engineer and mechanical engineer who specializes in energy processes. After graduating from the Budapest University of Technology, he worked for 15 years in the nuclear energy research department of the Central Physical Research Institute. It was here that he began to study the characteristics of the movement and transformation of different types of energies, a subject on which he later wrote his doctoral dissertation.

In the early 1980s, he worked for a year and a half in the United States as a scholarship holder at the International Atomic Energy Agency where he first encountered paranormal phenomena during an evening conversation. He became a well-known personality in Hungary a decade later as an expert on the TV show ‘Close Encounters of the Zeroth Kind’. According to Egely, energy is not limited to large power plants or engines but permeates every single aspect of our lives, as life itself has its energetics. He mentions that there are oddities and anomalies in nature that we do not understand, such as ball lightning, about which he has also written a book.

He is interested in everything that is new and currently not deemed important by our knowledge, because it can be explained. He sees this as an opportunity to learn something significantly new from nature.

You cannot be accused of being disconnected from recognized sciences due to your qualifications. What directed your attention towards pseudosciences?

In nature, the most interesting and advanced structure is the human mind itself, and if someone is really serious about learning something from it, then the physical functioning of the brain must be studied. However, if the brain is functioning perfectly, it does not reveal its operating principles. But if there is a problem with it, we can figure that out. A well-functioning vacuum cleaner makes a quiet noise, while one with an electrical short shows that it operates on electricity.

What does the word ‘energy’ mean to you?

The simplest words tend to be the most complicated. There are so many different ways of interpreting them. This is the problem with energy because it is generally interpreted as the ability to do work, but it is a much broader concept. Many kinds of physical effects can perform work, from mechanics and chemistry to electrodynamics, and energy can actually only be conceptualized and understood as symmetry, but this is such an abstract approach that few people think about it. Symmetry is not just key to understanding biological so-called paranormal phenomena. The biggest argument against their existence is that if they existed, even sewing machines should show them. This view is not true because a sewing machine is not made of the same material as the human body. All living beings contain materials with twisted symmetry. Think of the structure of DNA, which is much more complex than the material from which mechanical devices are made. Those who are unaware of this and want to sweep the existence of paranormal phenomena under the rug are not familiar with the basics. The only problem is that technically we are far from being able to artificially create the material of living beings. Therefore, it’s easier to say that such things do not exist.

Can we call the phenomenon you study bioenergy?

Yes, although I must note that every culture has invented a term for it. In India, it’s called prana, in China, qi, and we call it life energy or bioenergy. Our experiments with young people in Hungary have proven that, for instance, during the bending of metal, they emit a sudden large energy pulse, which can be mapped out using strain gauges placed in a spatial dimension, perpendicular to each other.

How did the Egely Wheel, which has recently become a worldwide success, come into being?

This relatively simple life energy meter was born after more than ten years of labor. As an energy engineer, I felt challenged by the fundamental question; can something exist that has been talked about for thousands of years, but I as a professional know nothing about it? I thought that an objective measurement method had to be developed for this phenomenon, making it accessible to science. So, I tried to find the simplest possible effect and accordingly create a similarly simple measuring device. My aim was to convince as many people as possible, as affordable as possible, that there is life energy that is their treasure and that they should manage it.

Is there any secret to the Egely Wheel?

Of course, there is a technical secret to its construction, but the basic effect is simple: the energy that surrounds living beings not only repels and attracts objects, like electric or magnetic forces, but also rotates them. The torque, if weak, can be measured more reliably than very small pulling or pushing forces. The first version suitable for scientific experiments was completed, in which the sensing disk floated in a magnetic field, surrounded by a sensitive resonator. This device can start rotating from several meters away if someone looks at it.

The Egely Wheel is trusted by thousands of people who practice yoga, telekinesis, meditation and healing. This device is the best solution for measuring your energy flow and efficiency of healing, and you get instant feedback.

At the demonstration in Hong Kong last November [1998, International Exhibition of Inventions], a Japanese tourist managed to do this with the new device as well. How can this phenomenon be explained?

This means that the individual has an above-average level of bioenergy and is also able to handle it. It can be compared to musical talent, which, if developed, can rise well above average. If someone chooses an appropriate lifestyle and, for example, can perform mental exercises, then they can achieve a very high life energy level. My explicit goal was to aid the learning process with the Egely Wheel. Receiving feedback can accelerate development by orders of magnitude.

How has the scientific community received this new method?

At first, I wrote a research report in English, which included the results of over five hundred filmed experiments. After that, I conducted thermal and electrical engineering control measures for years because I wanted to make sure that there was no ‘thermal engineering artifact’ in the measurement results. When I was absolutely sure that this phenomenon exists, and my colleagues also verified the research results, only then did I dare to present it to the public. If I had come to the opposite conclusion at the time, i.e. if I had shown as a researcher that this effect did not exist, I would have been applauded by mainstream science. Instead, the reaction I received was quite a cold shower, but I thought, and still think, that reality must be researched. Whatever life, physics, and nature bring, we, as researchers, must stand by it and not act according to our prejudices or expectations. So, I found myself alone in the arena, and, with embarrassment, I had to admit that we, the researchers, were mistaken, as nature proved to be smarter than us again.

Could you elaborate on that?

Nature utilizes a much wider range of effects, interactions, and ‘technical tricks’ than what we are currently aware of. Considering the current state of science, we often marvel at what was done in ancient times and even a century ago in the name of healing, due to the limited understanding of the human body’s functioning. However, it would be foolish to think that we have reached the end of the learning process today. I believe we are currently at the very beginning of this journey, and nature has a fantastic array of surprises in store for us, possibly over the next several hundred years.

What specific arguments have been made against your invention?

The most common counterargument against the Egely Wheel is that it’s an electrostatic process. This is claimed by a professor at the Lajos Kossuth University in Debrecen [now University of Debrecen]. In a good high school, a student wouldn’t even be allowed to graduate for such a claim, because the very name ‘electrostatics’ implies that it cannot cause a dynamic phenomenon, in this case, rotation. It also cannot be a heat effect, which I have already discussed. The main ‘argument’ is that such a thing simply does not exist.

Despite this, how did this new Hungarian invention make a career? Where is it manufactured, and how is this Egely Wheel life energy meter marketed?

The electronic components are imported from abroad, and it is assembled here by a Hungarian company according to Hungarian designs. The Egely Wheel has won first or second prize at many domestic and international invention exhibitions, and while not in huge quantities, it is exported to the markets of the most developed industrial countries, including Germany, Japan, America, and Taiwan.

What will be the further fate of the Egely Wheel life energy meter?

For me, the interesting aspect is not what people think about it, but rather ensuring that everyone can access it, which is why we are trying to find interested parties and partners in other countries. I believe it is important for a domestic engineer that their intellectual product appears at the end of the production line and thus contributes to the nation’s prestige while also providing employment opportunities for Hungarians. It’s a kind of pride for me that this device was invented and can be manufactured here in Hungary, and that we are exporting it to Japan, a country that has recognized the existence of bioenergy for millennia but has not figured out how to measure it.

Lately, you have been focusing on what is called zero-point or space energy. What results have you achieved?

There are several energy sources that are still not being exploited, even though they offer practically free, pollution-free, infinitely lasting, and universally available energy. There has been a battle for decades between inventors and energy producers over the dissemination of these inventions. Since the 1920s, I have found traces indicating that inventors, in various guises but with roughly the same physical content, have tapped into this type of energy source. These people are regularly declared insane, or they disappear along with their devices. However, in some cases, surprisingly detailed documentation has survived. I refer here to the case of Moray, who provided dozens of notarized certificates, photographs, records, and documents proving that he had created such a device. Today, several such devices have even reached the patent stage, which I wrote about in my book on space technology. I hope that its continuation can be published in the near future.

What is zero-point energy?

It is the electromagnetic radiation that surrounds us everywhere. We do not perish because it affects us uniformly. Deep-sea fish also survive because they are subjected to enormous pressure from all sides. Today, devices that operate on zero-point energy are being mass-produced and are available for purchase.

How did the device mentioned in your book ‘Suppressed Inventions’, which was invented by Nikola Tesla and could generate electricity without any visible energy intake, work?

Since the device and others like it were destroyed, I only have speculations about its operating principle. I suspect that this type of device has since been reinvented in England, and I am in contact with the creator. One thing is certain: this device for generating electrical energy is ready for mass production. Interestingly, the current version of the device that Tesla used for automobile propulsion can now be integrated into existing vehicles.

This device is probably the most serious toy or the most playful serious thing you have ever met.

What are you currently working on?

I am trying to understand the physics behind previously invented devices because I believe that for practical applications, there is nothing more important than a good theory. If we understand the operating principles of these products, perhaps much better and more ingenious devices can be produced. I am interested in who, when, and how made mistakes in interpreting the conservation of energy and angular momentum. I already have an idea, and I am hopeful that I will find people who are interested in this matter, and together we may achieve more.

Can we expect any groundbreaking announcements from you in the near future?

One should never set a precise deadline, because despite having patents for decades, there is a vast amount of know-how associated with them. Understanding all the technical tricks is much more exhausting than understanding the basic phenomenon. We are forced to conduct both fundamental and applied research, but in every case, we aim to produce a commercially viable device that eventually gets mass-produced, because no one will believe us until the proof can be bought in a store. If our ideas come to fruition, the standard of living of the average citizen could be increased three to four times, because people pay for energy not just when they pay for heating and electricity, but also when they buy a train ticket or a bus pass, or even a house or a brick, along with the combustion and transportation costs included in the price of the brick.

There’s a rumor that you are involved in the creation of a device suitable for heating and electricity supply.

A group in Hungary, with whom I am in a supporting relationship, has developed a device. It produces 15 kilowatts of output for an input of five kilowatts. It can be used to heat a house and, although it still needs some development, it is already suitable for mass production in its current state. A documentary film was made about it, which they wanted to show on Nap TV [a former producer of television programmes in Hungary], but the host, as far as I know, forbade it. They need investors, because one device is not enough to demonstrate the product, not to mention mass production.

How could vehicles operate using the new energy source?

Since our energy needs could be met by devices based on dozens of different principles, a variety of equipment will need to be invented. This includes devices that facilitate a smooth transition. For instance, if someone has a gasoline car but can’t afford to buy the new technical devices, they will be able to convert their car with a small adapter. Of course, this won’t be perfect yet, but the first gasoline cars were also made by converting horse-drawn carriages.
